Spazzing-Out
Partying at Blue Martini last Saturday had to be one of the best decisions I’ve made in quite a while. Not just because I ………………, but because I happened to run into one of today’s best 80′s cover bands that I had ever heard. As I walked in, I was greeted by a funky rendition of Men in Hats “The Safety Dance”, that had the whole place jamming like it was 1982. As I looked up on stage to catch a glimpse of the band that had everyone vibing so hard too, I noticed that they were all dressed like total geeks, {Or total Spazzes in this case}!!! As their set progressed, the more outrageous the party continued to get as everyone danced like maniac’s and sang each 80′s tune word for word.
The band is called The Spazmatics and I’m pretty sure they got their name because they look like complete “spazzes”, and get everyone in the party who hears their music to completely “Spaz Out.” Click on the photo above to get an idea of what I’m talking about via party-pics. I was so impressed by their music and nerd swagger, that I decided to check them out the very next night at Roxy’s rooftop bar/lounge in downtown West Palm Beach. Although the end of that night was a complete blur for me, I managed to catch all the action going on while The Spazmatics blew the roof off of Roxy’s rooftop. Wait, their is no roof on Roxy’s rooftop but I think you get the idea…

8mts Till The Show Begins
After moving back to my hometown of Miami lakes this week, I discovered that I lived right down the street from LEX, creator of 8mts.com {Eight Minutes to Sunrise}, & one of Miami’s most notorious nightlife photographers. He decided to show me how Miami REALLY gets down, so he took me along to every event he photographed throughout the week. Nothing could really prepare me for all the madness and hangovers that would be to follow.

Cris Cab Forward Tour 2011

This Summer, Cris Cab and his band are hitting the road for the release of their highly anticipated E.P., “Forward.” For those of you who are unfamiliar with Cris, let me bring you up to speed. At only 18 years old, this young musician is bringing a fresh new sound to the mainstream airwaves with a unique blend of reggae, rock, soul & hip hop fusion. His renditions of Wiz Khalifa’s “Black & Yellow” and Kanye West’s “All of the Lights” have gained him quite a sizable fan base, including the likes of super-producer Pharell Willams. Watch them here. Although his covers might have got him noticed, his song writing ability’s are second to none. In the mainstream music market where songs are primarily written about sex, drugs, and/or violence, Cris manages to go against the grain with his summer hit single “Good Girls.” The songs message, “Good girl’s don’t grow on tress” is as catchy as is it is truthful enough for all to relate. His first stop on the “Forward “tour was in downtown Miami’s hot spot “Grand Central”, where a huge crowd of good girls and the guy’s who are looking for them, all lined up to catch his first show.

Sunset’s on The Ivory Tower
It’s amazing to see just how far The Overthrow has come within the past two years. After throwing one of the most epic & murderous events WMC has ever seen back in 2009 with Black Sunday, they continue to set the standard in the underground culture movement in Miami, and across the nation into 2011.
This year, during the newly dubbed “MMW” {Miami Music Week}, The Overthrow has played a major role in hosting some of the biggest electronic music events outside of Ultra. Their first event, “The Ivory Tower”, was actually one of the first events ever held at the newly constructed 1111 Building on Lincoln Road. The building is actually a state of the art parking garage, designed by world renowned architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron.
As the Miami sunset illuminated the Ivory Tower, good vibes were cast to all who attended. The Windish Agencies hottest new acts provided the evenings soundtrack, with performances by Nadastrom, Beni, Brenmar & High Rankin just to name a few. The vibe was much more laid back than any other Overthrow event I’ve ever attended, which made for great conversation amongst a crowd of young artists, entrepreneurs, fashion designers & nightlife connoisseurs from all over the country. Check out the pics below.
Unfortunately, “Ivory Tower” was the only Overthrow event I could make it out to this year for “MMW”, but make sure you visit their website to see what else they had in store for Miami. http://theoverthrow.com
