Into The groove

Into The groove

I couldn’t just look at her and tell that her favorite artist was Madonna. I’m not really a mind reader. I probably wouldn’t have even played “Lucky Star” that night had I not gotten to know her. She’s the kind of girl that all dj’s wanna play for. That girl who sings along to every word and dances all night like there is no tomorrow. She doesn’t care if the song thats playing is “on the radio” or if it’s something that she has never heard in her life, she just dances. She electrifies the room. Even the wallflowers feel that sudden urge to boogie when they watch her. Her rhythm is contagious. I wondered what she’s like when she wasn’t dancing. Does she have that same unbridled passion for life when there was no Music playing? I had to find out.  She surrounded herself with girlfriends however, girlfriends whose only job was to protect her from “nice guys”, “douche-bags”, and so called “players” whose only agenda was to get in her pants. I said hello to her friends but I ignored her. I took pictures of them and told them jokes but I never looked her way. There was so much I wanted to ask her, but I knew the second I acknowledged her, her friends would giver her that “Okay let’s go, this guy’s just trying to Fuck You” look. After winning her friends over, she looked at me with this seductive curiosity and asked me, “Are you gonna play Madonna tonight? I absolutely love Madonna.” “If your lucky” I told her, even though I wanted to say how I would play anything she wanted if it made her smile. I gave her a wink to translate the message. I wanted to play “Into the Groove” right when my fingers touched the Cdj’s, but I held off. I had to build the anticipation. As she danced, she looked to me in suspense after each mix, wondering when that moment would come when she would hear Madonna and just let loose. I held off until both of us couldn’t stand it anymore and then I played “Dress you up in My Love.” The lyrics just expressed everything I was feeling at the moment and more. I ended up playing 15 more Madonna songs that night because every time I did, her excitement would electrify the rest of the dance floor. I would have probably played more, but her girlfriends dragged her out 5 minutes before the party ended with the, “Let’s go, that dj played Madonna just to try and Fuck You” speech.
